A very unusual visitor in Liverpool

This weekend, Liverpool got invaded by a gigantic   50 foot mechanical spider called La Princesse.  The spider was part of a piece of exceptional street theatre, marking Liverpool's status of European Capital of Culture this year.  Thousands of people came out to look at the spider which made its first appearance in a building due for demolition.  Controlled by a team of scientists and accompanied by 26 musicians, La Princesse finally took refuge in the Birkenhead tunnel to disappear forever.
The whole event took more than a year to prepare and was all about team work.  From a small team of producers and directors to the technical team building the spider, to the people dealing with accomodation and hosting the event.    Even some of our guards were involved in the preperations!  Weeks before the event was due, La Princesse was secretly brought into the country from France, her place of origin.  Our Liverpool guards were guarding her closely while she was being assembled.  The unusual piece of work was given to us by Unusual Services, the technical brain behind the event.

29.08.2008: Video evidence helps abused taxi driver. Sometimes even we can help outside our normal working duties.  This was the case when our security officer Paul McPherson was able to provide CCTV evidence which showed a racially motivated attack on a taxi driver.  The incident happened outside the multistory car park on Princes Dock where the taxi driver was both verbally and physically abused by his passengers. The couple have been taken to court, where they admitted to charges.  Our team at the car park are vigilant at all times and their accurate monitoring and correct usage of the CCTV equipment has brought a swift conclusion to an  unpleasant incident.
07.07.2008: Rewards for delivering outstanding work.  Security officer, Norman Bates, received  a well deserved reward from the Port of Liverpool Police for delivering a superb job.  Coming back from his break at Cargill's RSCT one day in July, Norman spotted two intruders running across the rails.  He didn't hesitate and after alerting his colleagues began to closely track the men.  "I was the one who spotted them, but more people were involved with following them" explained Norman.  "Tracy Brooks informed the Port of Liverpool Police from our cabin and both dog handler Gill Newman and bus driver Mark provided back up"  Due to his quick and efficient reactions, the Port of Liverpool Police managed to catch the stowaways.  Had they managed to get onto a ship it could have cost the shipping company a find of around £30,000 for each person.
06.07.2008: Dog Handler saves day.   Last week another one of our dog handlers came up trumps!  Matthew Foulkes spotted movement amongst containers on the Docks, close to ACL.  After informing the Port of Liverpool Police  he then carried out a thorough search of the area and discovered two stowaways hidden in the drums and another hiding amongst the containers.  As above, had these stowaways managed to get onto the ACL vessel, our client might have been heavily fined.   Both Norman Bates and Matthew Foulkes received rewards for their vigilence and a special thank you from us!
20.06.2008 : On a roll with Roll Call :  The 18th June was a memorable day for our company.  That day we wnet live with the new software system Roll Call.  Since then all our security officers make their check calls directly into Roll Call, with their own personal number and site specific number.  From these calls we run the monthly pay roll, invoices and management reports.  Roll Call is a unique system, developed and tailor made in partnership with Sefton Security in Liverpool.  It brings together all aspects of our business.  From the rostering, check calls, site details to detailed client and employee information.  Because the system brigs all aspects together it was of the utmost importance the transition on the 18th June would go smoothly - and it did!  We only experienced a few minor set up problems, which by now have been dealt with.  Slowly everyone working with the system is getting used to it and learning more of the endless possibilities with this state of the art system.
10.06.2008 : Partnership NSS & Pertemps creates new jobs :  A new business partnership between our company and employment experts, Pertemps, has resulted in jobs for six local people with our company.  Alan Allman, Christopher Corkhill, William Naismith, Mark Fenna, Beverley Jones and John Hogan were recruited after successfully completing the SIA Level 2 Training Program run by Carlisle Training.   They are now based at the Port of Liverpool and undertake various aspects of security work such as gate house security, traffic flow management and static security.  The supervisors are very satisfied with their new staff.  Currently another 15 people are being interviewed to assess their suitability - because both parties agreed that a successful partnership like this should be continued.
